The following video is a self-introduction speech by Charly. Overall, I think Charly did a good job on her presentation. Her speech was well organized with a clear introduction and a brief description of her main talking points. In the body of her speech, she developed the main topics of her presentation with additional talking [...]
The speaker in this video gave a persuasive speech. In the beginning of his speech, the speaker poses a couple of thought provoking questions to his audience. This is a great way to get your audience engaged in your presentation, but I think he could have thrown in some shocking statistics about college debt or [...]
The following video is an informative presentation. The speaker in this video does a good job for her first time presenting. She immediately gets your attention by using some interesting statics and tells you up front what she is about to talk about. She appeals to the intellectual side of her audience which is a [...]
I think all of us at some time in our lives have given a speech that we could have done better. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Learn from your mistakes and improve the next time. Remember this… If you think your speech was the worst speech ever, there is always someone else who has [...]
In the following video you will see a short speech that was given by David Moppin. Before I point out what went wrong with his presentation, let me start with the positive. Towards the end of David’s speech he signaled to his audience that his message was coming to an end and closed with a [...]
Sara Warmack, only 11 years old, gave a shining example of a GREAT speech. I must warn you; however, that Sara’s message will evoke strong emotions which she does quite well. Whether you agree with her or not, she used excellent techniques that all GREAT speakers use. Most notably she was passionate and showed conviction [...]
For this post I am reviewing a speech that was given by Shakira at Oxford Union. Since Shakira was discretely using a teleprompter, I will not be grading her on eye contact with her audience since a teleprompter is designed to give the illusion that you are looking at your audience.
Shakira overall gave a good [...]
Let’s get started! The first presentation I will be grading comes from Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc. Jobs is a person who has given numerous presentations and speeches over the course of his career and is highly admired by many people. When he was asked to speak at Stanford University I was expecting him [...]
The speaker had excellent eye contact and vocal quality. She was passionate about the topic and it showed. Although she said she used expert opinion she failed to give appropriate credit to the sources for the information she used in her speech. One of the studies was from 1996. If this is a 2010 speech then she needs to update her sources. Failing to give credit while speaking is plagiarism. The visual aid is too small and hard to see. There are many grammatical errors and awkward phrases.
