Is this speaker persuasive?

The speaker in this video gave a persuasive speech. In the beginning of his speech, the speaker poses a couple of thought provoking questions to his audience. This is a great way to get your audience engaged in your presentation, but I think he could have thrown in some shocking statistics about college debt or [...]

Are you intellectually appealing?

The following video is an informative presentation. The speaker in this video does a good job for her first time presenting. She immediately gets your attention by using some interesting statics and tells you up front what she is about to talk about. She appeals to the intellectual side of her audience which is a [...]

The speaker had excellent eye contact and vocal quality. She was passionate about the topic and it showed. Although she said she used expert opinion she failed to give appropriate credit to the sources for the information she used in her speech. One of the studies was from 1996. If this is a 2010 speech then she needs to update her sources. Failing to give credit while speaking is plagiarism. The visual aid is too small and hard to see. There are many grammatical errors and awkward phrases.

If you practice you can avoid: embarrassing yourself, being nervous, using vocal fillers, reading from cue cards, looking goofy, sounding unintelligent, boring your audience, and more. Just watch the video below to see what I mean. Many thanks to Walla Walla Community College for posting this video. [...]

What's in your hand?

Sometimes the best way to get the attention of your audience when giving an informal presentation is to do something that your audience would not expect. The following presentation reminds me of a time when I gave a speech while I was holding an unusual looking object in my hand that kept the audience guessing [...]
